Hawai‘i Life Represents …
Alex Abreu
Realtor Salesperson, Maui
“A lot of my clients come here because they’re windsurfers, kitesurfers, and golfers. It’s a reflection of the Hawai‘i lifestyle.”
Alex Abreu grew up three blocks from the beach in Copa Cabana. He started surfing at a young age which brought him to Hawai‘i. His real estate career grew out of a desire to be home when his kids were home. He transitioned from hospitality to property management and has been a salesperson for 17 years. Hawaii Life has been his real estate home for nine years, the longest he’s been with a brokerage.
What does the idea of representation mean to you as it relates to real estate in Hawai‘i?
The bottom line is acting on behalf of your clients to the best of your ability. Think of it as if it’s your mom who is buying real estate. How would you act? What would you do? I think if you carry that mentality with you, at the end of the day, you can sleep knowing that you did the best you could to represent your clients and watch out for their best interests.
It's also up to you to always continue learning. We always have to be educating ourselves so we can represent our clients to the best of our ability.
What does “Hawaiʻi Life” mean to you?
I just try to live the Hawai‘i life. For example yesterday I loaded up my truck with three boards and went surfing before work. Hawai‘i Life means enjoying what this place has to offer and appreciating the fact that we’re here. I truly live that lifestyle.
What is a memorable feeling of accomplishment you have from working with Hawai‘i Life?
My seller's husband was sick and passed away, leaving her to care for her kids alone. We were on the brink of foreclosure, with the bank just a week away from taking the property. We had a secured buyer, but they actually ended up losing their lender.
So we scrambled to find a new lender and miraculously succeeded the next day and got final loan approval within seven days, an unheard-of timeframe. We were able to close the sale, ultimately saving my client from foreclosure. I was relieved to lift this enormous weight off her shoulders and help a local family in such a dire situation. The experience left a lasting impact on me.
