What does representation mean to you?
I believe that representation is adapting to whatever the specific situation calls for. Sometimes that means being assertive and other times it means giving people space and some time, slowing things down to match their pace. Good representation involves responsiveness, clear communication, intelligent advice, and not being too impulsive.
Hawai‘i Life is always tailoring their material to the market and design sensibilities of that particular year, evolving their ads and partnerships to stay at the forefront of the market. I like how Hawai‘i Life represents properties sold from the highest values in the state to the lowest and inbetween. It’s important in Hawai‘i that all people are served.
What does “Hawaiʻi Life” mean to you?
I feel Hawai‘i Life has a heart and is purposeful in its place in the market. It’s a combination of great marketing tactics and an emphasis on representation, caring about its agents and the clients that we represent. When starting I wanted to be part of a company that was in expansion mode. I liked that I could work hard with intelligent people and feel like my efforts were contributing to the company's growth. Now we are big, but still maintaining that small-company feel with how we operate.
The company is made up of a diverse crew of many diff skill sets, unique in their own ways. Agents are allowed and encouraged to be themselves, speak and dress how they want, but are all very intelligent and passionate about what the company represents.
Where are you located in Hawaiʻi and what makes it a special place?
I'm up in Haiku on the North Shore of Maui, raising my kids and sending them off to school in upcountry, which is where I grew up. This island offers a special relationship between the island and both the locals and the visitors who are passing through. Maui's got a bit of everything – nature, fancy resorts, country living, and it's hands-down the top spot for wind sports worldwide. Whether you're feeling classy or cowboy, up for some big wave action or just chilling in a lounge chair on the beach, Maui's has that variety.
